Named TiE “StreeShakti”, this initiative seeks to reflect the growing aspirational role of women in the Indian entrepreneurial eco-system.

TiE has for some years wanted to build a platform enabling and recognising women entrepreneurs who have broken the glass ceiling and overcome societal pressures and gender warfare and realised their dream of running their own enterprise successfully.

We have aimed to enable aspiring, budding and growing Women Entrepreneurs in the MSME space by rendering conceptual but practical business orientation/training, mentoring and access to an entrepreneurial eco-system.

The needs of women entrepreneurs were identified, through a GEM study, across 3 segments i.e. Untapped/Aspiring, Grassroots (SEC B,C,D) & Mid-Rung (SEC A) in 6 cities i.e. Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Indore. Out of this need arose the consensus to build a platform to celebrate the spirit of the woman entrepreneur across segments and domains. The study was steered by Rama Bijapurkar and Ireena Vittal.

As part of our ongoing effort to add value and depth to all constituencies of entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs in particular, this initiative will includes an annual 2-day conference for women entrepreneurs, to recognise, reward, educate and enable them. This is slated for early June, 2009 in Mumbai. It will be supported by on-ground education and mentoring activities for Women Entrepreneurs both pre and post the conference.

Yes, absolutely. Applications are invited from women entrepreneurs from grassroots, micro, small and medium enterprises.

This initiative is being led by a volunteer panel of commanding, influential women who have climbed to the top of the value chain. The steering committee is a powerful group consisting of Rama Bijapurkar, Gita Dang, Farzana Haque, Bharati Jacob, Chanda Kocchar, Shilpi Kapoor, Anita Ramchandran, Purvi Seth, Shikha Sharma and Ireena Vittal

While the outreach would target a much wider audience, at the conference we are targeting an audience made up of forward thinking women from all over the country and from all segments – grassroots, small, medium and big enterprises who have bucked the trend in small and big ways in their entrepreneurial enterprise.

The conference is structured in 3 parts.
– There will be a Plenary and inspirational sessions by leading speakers from India and around the world across socio-economic spectrum, as well as motivational entrepreneurs.
– There will be Education workshops where the TiE GEM study on women entrepreneurs will be leveraged to design the training modules. These will be delivered by entrepreneurs, education trainers/counsellors to add value.
– Finally at the Awards Evening, final short–listed Entrepreneurs will be felicitated with a trophy, cash prize, mentoring and continued education at leading Business institutes.
