Saloni Malhotra is the founder and CEO of DesiCrew, an IT-enabled service company that provides back-office and support services in rural areas of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. DesiCrew has set up a 50-seat office in a Panchayat village and trains the educated youth on computer operations, internet, and back-office jobs. DesiCrew is contributing a lot to the rural society by employing the rural population and educated youth in their local geography.
Saloni sees challenges as an integral part of her journey. Linking the rural to BPOs was a unique challenge for her. She had to cut through the stereotype beliefs against a young girl starting a unique business in rural areas. Other challenges she faced included building trust among the rural people, setting up a state-of-art IT infrastructure in villages, and training them.
