Supporting the TiE Stree Shakti initiative, the Punjab and Chandigarh Chapter of TiE launched WeConnect! – a TiE Women Entrepreneurs Special Interest Group at a well attended function held at the British Library on March 7, 2009.
WeConnect aims to enable and recognise women entrepreneurs who have overcome societal pressures and gender warfare to realise their dream of running their own enterprise successfully. This initiative will reflect the growing aspirational role of women in the Indian entrepreneurial eco-system and is in keeping with TiE?s objective to foster entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking and education.
A Panel Discussion on ?Women Entrepreneurs – Challenges and the Road Ahead? was moderated by Anupama Arya, Director, Mobera Systems and discussed by a panel consisting of Nainee Garg, Jt. Managing Director, Timber Trail Resorts, Anuja Gupta, COO, Red Alkemi, Poonam Batth, Times Now and Chandandeep Kaur, Director, Access Infotech (P) Ltd.
It was felt by all the panellists that WEConnect was a right step taken to include women into the entrepreneurial eco system. Social attitudes were changing alongwith increasing number of educated women aiming for leadership roles in business. Initiatives like WEConnect would support the trend of women opting for entrepreneurship.
Puneet Vatsayan, President TiE Punjab & Chandigarh, said, ?In the region, the business world is in dire need of a greater number of connected, empowered, and effective women leaders. With WeConnect!, we hope fill this need and enable aspiring, budding and growing women entrepreneurs by providing mentoring and access to an entrepreneurial eco-system.?
